The seven Sacraments are the masterworks of God’s grace in the new covenant established by Jesus. As the Catechism says (1116) “Sacraments are ‘powers that come forth; from the Body of Christ, which is ever living and life giving. They are actions of the Holy Spirit at work in His body, the Church…” “The sacraments are efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us.” (1131)
Through the water of Baptism Christ defeats our sin and we rise to new life with Him. As Jesus said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit.” (Jn. 3:5) Then after the resurrection He commissioned his apostles, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit…” (Mt. 28:19)

Jesus opened the floodgates of mercy on the world, beginning with his public ministry, and continuing in the Church. When Jesus had risen from the dead he breathed on his apostles and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” (Jn. 20:23) We receive the divine mercy of God in the sacrament of Reconciliation where all our sins can be forgiven by Christ, through the priest.
Reconciliation is offered 30 minutes before each daily Mass, 4:00 - 5:00pm on Saturdays, 3:30 - 3:55pm on Sundays, and by appointment with Father.
Jesus said, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world,” (Jn. 6:51) and at the last supper, “while they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, ‘Take and eat; this is my body.’ Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.’” (Mt. 26:26-28). This is memorialized in a real way in the Mass where we hear the Word of God, praise and thank Him, and consecrate bread and wine to become the Body and Blood of Christ which we then receive. The Eucharist is the source and the summit of our Christian life because it contains Christ Himself.
Mass is offered at Holy Savior every day of the week.
Sundays at 8:00am, 11:00am, and 4:00pm.
Monday at 8:00am. Tuesday - Thursday at 6:00pm. Friday & Saturday at 8:00am.
Jesus is the High Priest of the new covenant and he calls men to participate in His priesthood. He established it with the apostles, “As the Father has sent me, so I send you (Jn. 20:21),” and they passed it on so the graces of Christ in His Church could come to all people, as seen in Acts 14:23, “They appointed presbyters for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, commended them to the Lord in whom they had put their faith.” As St. Paul acts as he does “because of the grace given me by God to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in performing the priestly service of the gospel of God.” (Rom. 15:15-16) Catholic priests and bishops have been entrusted with this same ministry and “Through the ordained ministry, especially that of priests and bishops, the presence of Christ as head of the Church is made visible in the midst of the community of believers.” (Catechism 1549)
Holy Orders refers to the three ministries of deacons, priests, and bishops. A man who is interested in learning more or feels called to Holy Orders can talk with Father to learn more, visit the diocesan vocations page, or contact the Vocations Office at 316 440-1714.
The Catholic Church understands marriage to be the intimate, lifelong, and exclusive relationship of love entered by a man and a woman, ordered by God the Creator for the good of the couple and the procreation and education of children. This covenantal relationship has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament. As Jesus says, quoting Genesis, “‘a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” (Mk. 10:7-9)
To schedule your wedding at Holy Savior, you must first meet with the pastor. In that initial meeting, Father will detail the marriage preparation process, answer any questions you have, and help you set a date for the wedding at Holy Savior. Please schedule a meeting with Father at least nine months prior to the desired date of your wedding, as that is the required minimum time for the marriage preparation process.
Jesus’ ministry was filled with healing the sick. He shared his power with His disciples when he sent them out two-by-two as it is said, “They drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.” (Mk. 6:13) In the letter of James we hear, “Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up.” (James 5:14-15)
Anointing of the Sick is for anyone who is seriously ill, going in for invasive surgery, elderly, or in danger of death. Please contact the parish office 316-682-8712 or the sacramental emergency line to request this sacrament.
Confirmation is the sacrament through which we receive the completion of our baptismal graces. As the Catechism teaches, “the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost.” (1302) This sacrament strengthens us with supernatural virtues, charisms, and Gifts of the Holy Spirit for personal holiness and to fulfill God’s will through witness and mission.
Confirmation classes begin every other year, starting in the Fall, for middle school aged children. Please contact the parish office for information. If you are a baptized adult seeking Confirmation, please contact Father.
